In a shocking incident, a passenger traveling on an Air India flight from Delhi to New York recently found a cockroach in the food served on board. The issue was brought to light when the passenger shared her distressing experience on social media, causing widespread outrage and negative attention toward the airline.
The passenger, who was traveling with her two-year-old child, posted about the incident on X (formerly Twitter), sharing photos and videos of the contaminated meal. She revealed that both she and her child had already consumed more than half of the omelet before discovering the cockroach.
The situation became even more concerning when they both suffered from food poisoning due to the incident. The passenger’s post quickly gained traction as she tagged Air India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu, demanding action and accountability.
She wrote in her post: “Found a cockroach in the omelette served to me on the @airindia flight from Delhi to New York. My 2 year old finished more than half of it with me when we found this. Suffered from food poisoning as a result. @DGCAIndia @RamMNK”
Air India’s Response and Food Safety Concerns
In response to the incident, Air India issued an official statement acknowledging the passenger’s complaint. The airline expressed regret over the matter.
“Dear Ms. Savant, we’re very sorry to hear about your experience. Please share your booking details via DM so that we can investigate promptly,” Air India responded.
In response to the uproar caused by the discovery of a cockroach in a meal on an Air India flight from Delhi to New York, the airline quickly released a formal statement.
The spokesperson for Air India addressed the situation, assuring passengers that the company is taking the matter very seriously and has launched an investigation to determine how such a lapse occurred.
“We are aware of a social media post by a passenger regarding a foreign object in the onboard meal offered to them on AI 101 operating from DEL to JFK on 17 September 2024. We will take necessary actions to prevent any recurrence of such instances in future,” the spokesperson for Air India added.
