The Indian Railways has been frequently criticized for the subpar quality of food served during journeys. However, the Railways, in response, often assures passengers of its commitment to improving catering services.
They usually encourage travelers to report such incidents through official channels, promising swift action. Passengers always expect better standards in catering, especially after paying a premium for meals.
Many passengers have expressed dissatisfaction over the declining food quality on Indian Railways, particularly with the meals served by IRCTC. Complaints range from poor taste, stale ingredients, inadequate hygiene, and even packaging issues.
Despite efforts to improve the services, it seems that food quality remains inconsistent across several routes. Well, catering to millions of passengers daily can lead to challenges in maintaining consistent quality.
The large-scale production of food often results in compromises in taste and freshness. IRCTC often outsources food production to various local vendors, and this variability can cause discrepancies in food quality depending on the contractor.
Railway replies after Passenger complains Train food “Tastes Like Food For Prisoners”
Meanwhile, a Twitter user named Bhumika posted a pic of her half-eaten meal on a train which had dal, rice, and sabzi served on the plate. She added that the rising train fares don’t justify the quality of food on the trains.
“Have you ever tasted your own food @IRCTCofficial? Will you ever give such bad quality and taste to your own family and children? It tastes like food for prisoners. The ticket prices are increasing day by day but you are providing the same bad quality food to your customers.,” she tweeted.
Meanwhile, one user said, ”The food is as pathetic as their services, the app is supreme quality bad, the website is a nightmare, charges are massive and the quality is degrading, so bad.”
Here’s how Railways responded:
“Sir, kindly share PNR and mobile number in Direct Message (DM) -IRCTC Official.”
