Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer grabbed the headlines after he hilariously took a dig at ex-England star Michael Vaughan in a playful banter. Recently, India’s Rohit Sharma-led side struggled against Sri Lanka’s spinners and lost the ODI series 2-0.
During a Q&A session on X (formerly Twitter), Vaughan took a cheeky swipe at Jaffer by asking for his thoughts on India’s recent performance in the series against Sri Lanka.
“Hi, Wasim .. What was the recent ODI series result in Sri Lanka? I have been away and missed it. Hope all is well,” Michael Vaughan wrote on X.
“I’ll put it in Ashes terms for you Michael. Ind won as many games in that series as the Tests Eng have won in Aus in last 12 years,” Jaffer wrote on X.
In fact, this was India’s first ODI series defeat against Sri Lanka for the first time in 27 years.
India’s defeat to Sri Lanka in the 2024 ODI series was a significant setback for the Men in Blue. It marked the first time since 1997 that India lost a bilateral ODI series to Sri Lanka, highlighting the effectiveness of the Sri Lankan spinners and India’s struggle to adapt to the conditions.
The 2-0 series loss came as a surprise, especially given India’s strong performances in recent years, and raised concerns ahead of future tournaments, including the Champions Trophy in Pakistan next yea
This was India’s first ODI series since their heartbreaking loss to Australia in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup at home in November last year.
It also marked their first series in preparation for next year’s Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan. India’s next ODI assignment will be a three-match home series against England in February.
