Actor Sonu Sood, widely recognized for his humanitarian efforts, is facing a storm of criticism on social media after defending a food vendor who was caught spitting on a customer’s food.
The controversy escalated when actor-politician Kangana Ranaut also weighed in, condemning Sonu Sood’s stance.
“Next you know Sonu ji will direct his own Ramayana based on his own personal findings about God and religion. Wah kya baat hai Bollywood se ek aur Ramayana,” the actress posted.
Kangana shared her views while reposting a message that highlighted the controversy. The original post criticized Bollywood actor Sonu Sood for justifying the act of spitting in people’s food. It mentioned that Sood had equated the incident with a religious reference, suggesting it was an act of humanity and questioning why it shouldn’t be acceptable. Kangana echoed the criticism, expressing her disapproval of Sood’s defense.
The incident began earlier this week when a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) shared a disturbing video. The footage showed a boy preparing rotis and spitting on the dough before serving it to customers. This video quickly went viral, sparking outrage among viewers.
Sonu Sood’s defense of the vendor’s actions did not sit well with many on social media, leading to widespread backlash. Adding fuel to the fire, Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken nature, took to X to slam Sonu for his views. Ranaut, who is also an MP, criticized Sood, pointing out the health risks and the disrespect such actions show towards customers.
This uproar followed a recent mandate by authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Haridwar. They required eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners. Sonu Sood’s reaction to this mandate and his subsequent defense of the vendor’s behavior seemed to ignite the controversy further.
Reacting to Sonu’s tweet, the user wrote, “The roti smeared with spit should be parcelled to Sonu Sood, so that brotherhood remains intact!”
Meanwhile, Sonu Sood shared, “Our Shri Ram Ji ate the sour berries of Shabri, so why can’t I eat them? Violence can be defeated by non-violence my brother. Humanity must just remain intact. Jai Shri Ram.”
One user wrote, “Itna bhi defend maat karo, galat ko bhi sahi proof karne mein lage ho. (Don’t stoop down to defend something that you start sounding wrong.)”
A comment read, “Sonu, nonsense is at its place and truth is at its place, the one who makes this roti is neither Mother Shabari nor are you Ram? Mother Shabari is the symbol of love, this person is spitting in hatred.”
Another comment read, “Mother Shabari was a devotee of Lord Rama and she had not made the berries impure out of malice. She was simply giving them to Lord Rama after tasting them to know whether they were sweet or not in her innocence. The person shown in the video neither loves his customers nor is he spitting on the roti to taste it to check if it is cooked properly or not. The reason behind his action is hatred towards other religions. And you are comparing the act of such a person with that of mother Shabari? You are a very foolish person.”
