In 1978, two Congress workers hijacked Indian plane, Indira Gandhi gave them MLA tickets

In 1978, two friends, Bhola Nath Pandey and Devendra Pandey, hijacked Indian Airlines Flight IC-410. After the plane hijack, both of them demanded that Indira Gandhi be released from jail immediately and all the court cases against Sanjay Gandhi be dismissed.

Following this incident, Indira Gandhi was released and Congress returned to power in 1980. After this, the Congress party rewarded these two hijackers by giving them party tickets for the 1980 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Bhola Nath Pandey served as MLA from 1980 to 1985 and 1989 to 1991, while Devendra Pandey was also a two-time MLA and later became the general secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.

The more surprising thing is that the criminals who hijacked the plane were later made MLAs. This incident is seen as a shameful example in Indian politics, where even after a serious incident like hijacking, the criminals were given political rewards. This raised serious concerns about the politics and morality of the Congress party at that time.

Another user writes, ‘Congress is completely exposed in the last 10 years but in 2024LS it has proved the primary reason why Bharat became India and why we were ruled by Mughals and Britishers for 1000 years, same could be the future Hindus don’t care.’
