Police have arrested an Islamic cleric for threatening to kill the leader of a Hindu organization in Surat, Gujarat. He is also accused of conspiring to threaten a TV channel editor, BJP MLA Raja Singh, and former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Police say that he was planning such a conspiracy with his masters sitting in Pakistan and Nepal.
According to the police, the name of the accused is Sohail Abubakr Timol. Sohail is the manager of a thread factory and gives private tuition in Islam to Muslim children. Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot says that Sohail had conspired to murder Hindu Sanatan Sangh national president Upadesh Rana. For this, he along with his masters present in Pakistan and Nepal had prepared a plan to give betel nuts worth Rs 1 crore. Apart from this, he is also accused of conspiring to buy arms from Pakistan.
During the search, the police found objectionable information in Sohail’s mobile phone. This also included an offer of Rs 1 crore for the murder of Upadesh Rana. For this, he was continuously talking about the numbers of Pakistan and Nepal. The Police Commissioner said that Sohail had used a number from Laos to threaten Upadesh Rana in March and had also added people from Pakistan and Nepal to the group call.
Pictures and other details found on the phone revealed that all these people were planning a big conspiracy against the editor of a TV channel, BJP MLA Raja Singh, and former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Police say that people present in Pakistan and Nepal had contacted Sohail about one and a half years ago and since then till now all of them have been conspiring to carry out different incidents.
