Mahendra Singh Dhoni is celebrating his birthday today as he turned 42. He is one of the biggest names in cricket. The legend has transformed the Indian cricket team into potential serial winners. Under his astute leadership traits, India went places and accomplished several milestones.
MS Dhoni brought the best out of his teammates, which was the ultimate key to India’s glory in multi-nation tournaments and marquee events. The cricketing brain hogged the limelight after he helped Team India script a historic T20I glory in ICC T20 World Cup 2007.
India were not the favourites in the competition. However, MS Dhoni-led young Indian cricket team defied the odds and touched the pinnacle of success in South Africa. It’s not that easy to win a game in alien conditions.
However, to be able to go out there and perform extremely well throughout the tournament is so good that they deserve a standing ovation. India beat Pakistan in the final to win the coveted trophy. After that, India won the ICC ODI World Cup 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
India beat Sri Lanka in the final to win the second ODI World Cup after 28 years. The Men in Blue also showcased their dominance in the ICC Champions Trophy in the 2013 edition. India beat England in the final in England to win the coveted trophy.
With that accomplishment, MS Dhoni became the first captain in the history of the sport to win three different ICC trophies.
MS Dhoni reveals his role models
MS Dhoni is liked, loved, and admired by several cricketing superstars across the world. However, for the first time in history, the legend himself revealed his role models. When he was asked about his role models, he said, Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood great Amitabh Bachchan as his inspirations.
“Well, that’s a very difficult one. There’s someone like Sachin Tendulkar, who is a part of the side, whom most individual cricketers look up to.
And not to forget Amitabh Bachchan, who has been the biggest thing when it comes to Bollywood, and he is known the world over. So if you look at him, still, at his age, he is working and being among the best,” MS Dhoni had told ESPN Cricinfo.
“So these are the two people who are ideal role models, who have struggled through their phases in life and yet come out successful. The best thing is that they are very humble and grounded, which I think is very important to be a successful person,” Dhoni added.
