WhatsApp is a popular messaging and voice-over IP (VoIP) service owned by Facebook. The messaging service platform lets users send text messages, voice messages, photos, videos, and documents to other WhatsApp users, either individually or in groups.
Moreover, the app uses end-to-end encryption to make sure that messages and calls are secure and private. On top of that, the users can also make voice and video calls using the app, either one-on-one or in groups.
WhatsApp has become popular for both personal and professional communication. Notably, many businesses use the app to communicate with customers and colleagues.
WhatsApp has been known for its commitment to user privacy and security. The app uses end-to-end encryption to ensure that messages, calls, and shared media are encrypted and can only be viewed by the sender and recipient. This means that even WhatsApp itself cannot read or access the content of your messages and calls.
However, in recent years, WhatsApp has faced some criticism over its privacy policy and data-sharing practices with its parent company, Facebook. In 2021, WhatsApp updated its privacy policy, which caused some concern among users about their data privacy.
WhatsApp Responds After Twitter Engineer Claimed WhatsApp Uses Microphone While Sleeping
Recently, a Twitter user posted, “WhatsApp has been using the microphone in the background, while I was asleep and since I woke up at 6 AM (and that’s just a part of the timeline!) What’s going on?”
Meanwhile, the messaging app, WhatsApp finally responded to the Twitter user. “Over the last 24 hours, we’ve been in touch with a Twitter engineer who posted an issue with his Pixel phone and WhatsApp. We believe this is a bug on Android that mis-attributes information in their Privacy Dashboard and have asked Google to investigate and remediate,” WhatsApp replied.
Moreover, WhatsApp further added, “Users have full control over their mic settings Once granted permission, WhatsApp only accesses the mic when a user is making a call or recording a voice note or video – and even then, these communications are protected by end-to-end encryption so WhatsApp cannot hear them”
