Anurag Kashyap is a popular Indian filmmaker and actor who is best-known for his works and contribution to the Bollywood film industry. Moreover, he is the recipient of many accolades, including four Filmfare Awards.
For his contributions to cinema, the Government of France awarded him the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2013. His fame increased with the two-part crime drama, Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). After that, he subsequently co-produced the critically acclaimed drama named The Lunchbox, and the biographical drama Shahid (both 2013).
For the record, The Lunchbox earned him a BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language nomination. Besides that, his next movies were the anthology Bombay Talkies (2013), and the drama Ugly (2014). In 2016, she directed Raman Raghav 2.0, a movie inspired by the serial killer Raman Raghav.
His next movie was the sports drama Mukkabaaz, which was released in the year 2018. The same year, he co-directed India’s first Netflix Original series, the crime thriller Sacred Games, based on Vikram Chandra’s novel of the same name and the romantic drama Manmarziyaan. Moreover, he is also the co-founder of a film production company, Good Bad Films.
“Anurag Kashyap Got Naked, Asked Me To Remove My Clothes”: Payal Ghosh
In 2020, actress named Payal Ghosh claimed that filmmaker Anurag Kashyap attempted to molest her once. She recalled that the filmmaker even got naked in front of her and attempted to get intimate with her.
In an interview to IANS, she spoke about the incident that she says took place in 2014, adding that it continues to haunt her in the first place.
Payal Ghosh said, “I was molested by a very famous director. The director told me that girls he works with ‘have a gala time’ with him. The circumstances created at that moment were very embarrassing.”
When she was asked to name of the director, Payal Ghosh said: “It was Anurag Kashyap who tried to molest me in 2014.” When asked why she remained silent for so several years. she said, “I tried to open up about it several times, but my family and close friends asked me to be silent to avoid any problem in the future. I wanted to talk about it, but I was silenced. We should talk about it so that people like him don’t abuse their position of power.”
Recalling the incident, she said: “First, I went to meet him in his office at Yari Road. He was talking to somebody else, and asked me to sit in front of him. He was busy talking to somebody else and that’s why I left.
“Next day, he called me asking me not to wear anything glamourous that would suggest that I am an actress. He said ‘wear something simple’. So, I went to meet him in salwar kameez. He cooked for me, and picked my plates as well. I left after sometime but he messaged again, asking me to come. I refused, since it was late. He even enquired about who lives with me,” Payal Ghosh added.
