In a strange incident from Maharashtra, a man from Solapur district tied the knot with twin sisters from Mumbai, the police confirmed the news.
The man made up his mind to marry the two women who are both IT professionals, aged 36 years at the same ceremony took place at a hotel situated in Malegaon village on Akluj Welapur Road in Akluj taluka on December 2.
For the unversed, the man hails from Akluj taluka whereas the family of the twin sisters come from a suburb of Mumbai. Meanwhile, the two sisters reportedly planned to marry the same man as they couldn’t bear to leave each other after marriage.
Their family also consented to the strange demand of the twins, added the officials. Meanwhile, the videos of the wedding that happened in Malshiras tehsil on Friday went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, a social worker from Akluj went up to the Solapur district police and complained about the incident. Based on the complaint, a non-cognisable (NC) offence under section 494 which is marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife of the Indian Penal Code has been filed against the groom at Akluj police station, an official added.
Section 494 of IPC relates to marrying again during the lifetime of the husband or wife and attracts confinement for a term which may go up to seven years and also fine.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Basavraj Shivpuje added “Since it is a non-cognizable offence, we will be approaching the court on Monday and seek permission to conduct a probe in the case.”
“We have preliminary information that both the sisters are close and wanted to stay together. Further investigation is underway,” Solapur rural superintendent of police Shirish Sardeshpande said.
