Acid attack has always been a daunting challenge for all governments in India for 2-3 decades. measures after measures have been taken to prevent acid violence but nothing seems to be working in favour.
One of the measure reasons why the government has failed to keep the heinous crime under check is that it is committed by close or distant relatives or friends of victims in most cases. The government finds it difficult to keep an eye on relatives and friends.
Data show a sharp rise in the number of acid attacks in the region in recent years. At least 106 such attacks took place in 2012, as per the Acid Survivors Foundation India (ASFI). And that figure climbed to 349 in 2014. Activists say that figure rose to 520 in 2015.
Meanwhile, this time around, a man sustained massive injuries after he was acid-attacked by his lover over allegedly rejecting her proposal of marriage in Haryana’s Sonepat.
The victim in the equation is Shyam, who is a resident of Mayur Vihar and was immediately rushed to a private hospital and his condition remains critical. Meanwhile, the relatives of the victim filed a complaint against the woman.
As per the given complaint, the relatives of the victim added that Shivam had an affair with Anjali, who is a resident of Bidal village of Sonipat and she was constantly pressurizing him for marriage.
“Anjali has already been married and Shivam refused to marry her when he got to know about this. The family of the victim has appealed for strict legal action in the matter,” said ASI Parvind.
“Anjali then reached Shivam’s house to ask him for marriage but Shivam’s aunt refused. On Thursday, when Shivam was heading to a grocery store, Anjali attacked him and threw acid on his face in Mayur Vihar. We have begun a probe into the matter while the said accused is at large,” the ASI said.
