Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar came under fire for his distasteful remark on Shimron Hetmyer’s wife. It all started when Rajasthan Royals fielded their best team against Chennai Super Kings in their last game of the group stage as their hard-hitting batter Shimron Hetmyer returned after the birth of his child.
The West Indies batter didn’t do much with the bat as he scored 6 off 7 balls and was dismissed. Needless to say, he was still in the limelight because of an unpleasant remark made by the veteran Indian commentator Sunil Gavaskar in the commentary box.
In fact, Gavaskar was in the commentary box when Shimron Hetmyer came to bat. Gavaskar’s remarks didn’t go down well with the fans on social media portals. He added, “Hetmyer’s wife delivered, will Hetmyer deliver for the Royals now?”
This isn’t the first time that Gavaskar came under fire for his remark. Earlier, during IPL 2020 season when Kohli was in bad form, the commentator came up with a shocking remark involving Anushka Sharma, Kohli’s wife.
The former captain remarked, “Inhone lockdown me to bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hain”. (Virat Kohli has only trained against Anushka’s balls during the lockdown)
To which, Anushka Sharma responded, “That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her of her husband’s game? I’m sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commenting on the game.
“Don’t you think you should have an equal amount of respect for me and us? I’m sure you can have many other words and sentences in your mind to use to comment on my husband’s performance from last night or your words only relevant if you use my name in the process? “Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman`s game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this,” she added.
