Nightingale of Indian Cinema, Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 owing to multiple-organ failure on February 6, Sunday. Condolence messages poured in quickly after her demise. Indian cinema and music will never be the same again and that’s for sure.
She enthralled music lovers in India and across the globe with her euphonious and sublime voice for many decades. Her voice was recognized by billions of people. Lata Mangeshkar was hospitalised on January 11 after experiencing mild symptoms and was tested positive for coronavirus pandemic.
She kick-started her career in 1942 when she was only 13 years. In a legendary career spanning over seven decades, she sang more than 30,000 songs in 36 languages. Her popularity extended even beyond India.
Notably, she was celebrated not only in nations likes Pakistan and Bangladesh but also in some Western countries. She was awarded the “Bharat Ratna”, which is India’s highest civilian honour in 2001. It is also worth mentioning here that the government of France conferred on her its highest civilian award, “Officier de la Legion d’Honneur”, in 2007.

Did you know? Lata Mangeshkar had a luxurious home situated at Peddar road. She also owned expensive cars and other luxurious worldly possessions. According to ETimes report, Lata Mangeshkar owned a lavish home in the posh area of South Mumbai.
Notably, she hosted several celebrities at her Prabhu Kunj home. The Queen of Melody, Lata Mangeshkar, owned some luxurious cars including Chevrolet, Buick and a Chrysler. Interestingly. the Nightingale of India was gifted an E-class Mercedes by late filmmaker Yash Chopra.
The expensive car was a token of appreciation for extending the contribution in his film Veer Zara featuring the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta.
For the unversed, Lata Mangeshkar was also fond of photography. She collected several expensive, professional cameras. It is speculated that her net worth is estimated at around Rs 360 crore, whereas others suggest it is estimated at Rs 108-115 crores.
Meanwhile, many questioned who will be the owner of Lata Mangeshkar’s property. She never married and is survived by her four siblings, all accomplished singers and musicians.
Meanwhile, Lata Mangeshkar’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar performed her last rites. If reports doing the rounds are to be believed then Hridaynath will be inheriting the late singer’s property. However, there’s no official confirmation regarding the same.
