In the previous three Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons, the Delhi Capitals (DC) have been one of the most consistent teams. The Delhi-based club was once known as the Delhi Daredevils, but the team’s owners renamed it the Delhi Capitals before the 2019 season.
DC was captained by Shreyas Iyer in 2019, and he led the team to third place. DC reached its first IPL final the following year, but were defeated by the Mumbai Indians. Rishabh Pant took over as captain in 2021, and the squad finished third once more.
DC has kept Pant, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw, and Axar Patel ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
While these four players have played a significant number of games for the Capitals, the following five individuals were never given the opportunity to play for Delhi despite signing a deal with the team.
Ben Dwarshuis
Ben Dwarshuis, an Australian fast bowler, has been signed by the Delhi Capitals as a substitute for Chris Woakes, who has withdrawn from the IPL 2021 season. DC, on the other hand, kept the Australian on the bench for the whole series.
Dwarshuis is a left-arm fast bowler who has had a fantastic season in the Big Bash League. Punjab Kings signed him in 2018, but did not utilise him.
Nathu Singh
In 2019, DC signed uncapped Indian fast bowler Nathu Singh to a contract. In 2017, the right-arm medium pacer was a member of the Gujarat Lions (GL). He appeared in two games for GL.
In 2019, DC did not even use him in their starting lineup once. The team released Singh the next year.
Bandaru Ayyappa
Bandaru Ayyappa, an Andhra Pradesh-based fast bowler, signed his first IPL contract with the Delhi Capitals in 2019. He had the opportunity to interact with players such as Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ricky Ponting, and Sourav Ganguly.
Ayyappa has an excellent domestic record, but he was not selected for the DC playing XI.
Kulwant Khejroliya
Kulwant Khejroliya, a former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fast bowler, joined Delhi Capitals as a substitute player in IPL 2021. Before joining the franchise as a team member, Khejroliya was a net bowler.
During the 2018 and 2019 seasons, the uncapped Indian pacer appeared in five matches for RCB, but DC did not offer him a single game.
Vishnu Vinod
Vishnu Vinod, a former Royal Challengers Bangalore batter, is another name on the list. At the IPL 2021 auction, the uncapped Indian wicket-keeper was signed by DC.
In 2017, Vinod scored 19 runs in three matches for RCB, but he was in excellent form in the domestic matches of the 2020-21 season. DC, on the other hand, did not choose him for the starting XI since they already had Rishabh Pant, who could maintain wickets.
Some popular betting sites will keep an eye on these players too. Hence, these were the 5 players who were signed by Delhi Capitals but never played a game for DC in IPL.
