World’s second-richest man and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was on the receiving end of trolls on social media for donating millions of money to the homeless charities in the USA. Jeremy Corbyn, who is the leader of the Labour Party in the UK and netizens criticised Amazon founder after the businessman had announced his donation of $98.5 million to 32 organisations across 23 states of the USA in order to help the homeless families.
Corbyn took to his Twitter handle to point out that the amount of Bezos’ latest donation represents just “0.09%” of the billionaire’s net worth. After that he suggested the Amazon founder to pay his taxes.
The U.K. Labour party leader has targeted Bezos and Amazon over the company’s low tax bills earlier. He also sent the company a sarcastic birthday card for Amazon’s 25th anniversary in July.
In the card, Corbyn wished Amazon “many happy tax returns” while insisting that the company should pay higher U.K. taxes.
“You owe the British people millions in taxes that pay for the public services that we all rely on,” Corbyn wrote in the letter.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, which updates the wealth of the richest 500 people in the world, Gates who shortly had the upper hand last month after Amazon posted a drop in profit, has finally taken over Jeff Bezos.
As per recent reports, Bill Gates’ net worth is estimated at $110 billion, while Bezos’ was valued at $108.7 billion.
This could be due to the cloud-computing agreement worth $10 billion that the Pentagon signed with Microsoft instead of Amazon. Meanwhile, Reliance Chairman, Mukesh Ambani is at the 10th spot with a net worth of $57 billion.
