In the last several years, the Indian cinema business has seen a transformation. With actors, filmmakers, and production organizations joining forces for various projects, the crossover between Bollywood and South Indian film industry has become rather significant.
While it’s a way for actors to grow their fan base, it’s a treat for fans to witness stars from B-town and regional cinema collide on the silver screen.
Here are the Bollywood actors who will appear in South Indian films in 2021.
1. Alia Bhatt – RRR
Alia Bhatt is one of Bollywood’s most gifted and varied actors. Her outstanding performances in films such as Raazi, Highway, and Udta Punjab say eloquently about her acting abilities. This year, the actress will appear in two critically acclaimed films: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and SS Rajamouli’s RRR.
As one of the leads in the period drama, Bhatt makes her Telugu debut. Jr NTR and Ram Charan also star in the film. “Alia plays Sita, a central female character who appears at a pivotal point in the movie. According to the New Indian Express, Rajamouli remarked, “She is partnered with Ram Charan and her character affects the path of the film.”
2. Ajay Devgn – RRR
Ajay Devgn meets Alia Bhatt from Bollywood in Rajamouli’s RRR. According to reports, the actor will play an onscreen mentor to Ram Charan and Jr NTR. “Ajay has shot for roughly 10 days in Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, where Delhi from the 1900s was recreated,” a source told NDTV about his role in the film.
In the flashback scenes, he appears. Within minutes of the narration, Ajay gave his approval. Despite the fact that it is a brief appearance, his song will remind you of his National Award-winning performance in The Legend of Bhagat Singh and will set the tone for the drama between the two leads.”
Surprisingly, RRR’s release will collide with Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan at the box office. The filmmakers plan to release the films on October 13 and October 15, respectively.
3. Kangana Ranaut – Thalaivi
Kangana Ranaut has a number of intriguing projects lined up for 2021, including the upcoming biopic Thalaivi, which is based on the late actor-politician J Jayalalithaa. A. L. Vijay is the director of the film. Kangana Ranaut stated she was intimidated when she was offered the part of Jayalalithaa.
“She (Jayalalithaa) was a unique type of performer. She wasn’t like me at all. She was more of a glamorous star, akin to Bollywood’s Aishwarya Rai. Fitting into those shoes was a huge struggle for me because I’m not renowned for being a glamorous celebrity. I believe there are some parallels.
She was a hesitant performer. I’m in the same boat as you. I had no desire to be an actress, which is why we were such odd performers. She became a politician because she believed she was worth far more than just being a glam doll [in movies]. For example, I became a filmmaker after realising that being an actress was too confining for me.
As a result, I believe there are parallels,” she said to The Hindu. The film is being produced in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi and will be released on April 23, 2021, on the late politician’s birthday.
4. Ananya Pandey – Liger
Ananya Pandey, who has only appeared in a few films, is set to make her Telugu debut alongside Arjun Reddy’s Vijay Deverakonda. Karan Johar is behind the romantic sports action. Johar commented on Instagram about the film.”
“We are proud to present LIGER, starring Vijay Deverakonda and the fiery Ananya Panday, the monarch of big screens and many hearts. We can’t wait to share this narrative with the world in five languages: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, directed by the incredibly talented Puri Jagannadh. Look forward to seeing you at the big displays! #SaalaCrossbreed #Liger” On September 9, 2021, the film will be released.
5. Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon – K.G.F: Chapter 2
Sanjay Dutt will play antagonist Adheera in K.G.F: Chapter 2 opposing Kannada actor Yash. Raveena Tandon plays the country’s Prime Minister in the film. The film is the follow-up to 2018’s K.G.F: Chapter 1. The film is directed by Prashanth Neel and stars Srinidhi Shetty in a pivotal role. It will be distributed in five languages.
