In a significant development, the Union Cabinet headed by PM Modi approved the Jammu and Kashmir Language Bill, 2020 to make five languages namely Urudu, Hindi, Dogri, English and Kashmiri as the official language of the Union Territory.
Ever since the Modi government revoked Article 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir which gave special status to the state, several significant developments have been made in the region.
The Modi government has approved a bill under which Hindi will be an official language in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Announcing the decision at a news briefing, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar stated that the Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill, 2020, will be introduced in Parliament in the upcoming Monsoon Session.
Before the abrogation of Article 370, Urudu and English were only the official language of the state. Now Hindi, Dogri and Kashmiri have been added among the list of official languages.
Taking everything into consideration, the government has accepted the long pending demand of the region for the inclusion of Dogri, Hindi and Kashmiri as officials languages in J-K, said Union Minister Jitendra Singh.
“It is not only a fulfilment of a long-pending public demand of the region but also in keeping with the spirit of equality which was ushered in after August 5 last year,” he told reporters.
Ever since PM Narendra Modi took charge at the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014, the central government has been trying to change the atmosphere around India.
Earlier, the Modi-led government sanctioned nine medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir. In addition to that, two AIIMS were also sanctioned for Jammu and Kashmir.
