In a recent incident, two youth in Uttar Pradesh were allegedly beaten up by the police during the Covid-19 pandemic for not wearing face masks.
The shocking incident took place in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Video beating up people with lathi for not wearing face masks went viral on social media in no time. Following which, social media users criticized police for beating people.
“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of misbehaviour with people by Ballia SDM Ashok Chaudhary. Directions have been given to suspend him with immediate effect,” CMO tweeted.
“In line with the Chief Minister’s instructions, Mr. Ashok Chaudhary has been suspended and attached to the Revenue Council,” CMO said in another tweet
Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ballia, Ashok Chaudhary has been caught on camera assaulting people with sticks for not wearing masks. In the video, which is going viral on social media, Chaudhary, along with some police personnel can be seen attacking people with lathi while carrying out a drive in Belthara Road to check if people are wearing masks and observing social distancing.
The SDM can be seen stopping people who are riding on a bike without masks. He also enters a shop and drags out two men from inside and starts beating them up on the road with sticks.
The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a probe into the incident after the victim filed a complaint against the officer and his actions. The incident comes at a time the government has been urging people to wear masks and ensure social distancing. Governments have also imposed fines to ensure people follow the norms. However, the officer going on a thrashing spree, has left the Uttar Pradesh government red-faced. Watch the full video for all the details on the story.
