In heartbreaking news, an 88-year-old woman and her 5 sons have died of Covid-19 within just two weeks in Bokaro, Jharkhand. It has been learnt that her sons who were 65 years old, 67 years old, 72 years old, 70 years old, and 60 years old died within a span of 10 days at different COVID-19 hospitals. One of the sons died of cancer.
“Six aged members of a family have died due to COVID-19. Two more members of the same family have tested positive, but their condition is stable. We are doing their contact tracing,” Gopal Das, Civil surgeon, Dhanbad, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
She was the mother of 7 children. Now, the lady is survived by her two children. The youngest son, who stayed back in Delhi, and a daughter who is settled in Kolkata.
A distant relative of the family told TOI, “Nobody in Dhanbad ever dreamt that an entire family, settled in different parts of the country, would be wiped out by the virus. Death has probably reunited them all in heaven.”
The last death in the family took place before dawn on Monday when the woman’s 71-year-old son, admitted to the ICU at Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (Rims) with COVID-19, collapsed in the hospital toilet.
The coronavirus, which originated in China, has spread across the globe ever since it came to be known. The deadly coronavirus outbreak has killed over 624,000 lives so far and over 15.3 million people have been infected with it globally. In India alone, the confirmed positive cases of coronavirus have surpassed 1.2 million till now, while over 30,000 people have died in the country from the infection.
