Vikas Dubey, the main accused in the killing of eight policemen in Kanpur, has been gunned down in an encounter. The gangster was arrested in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The encounter took place while the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) was taking him by road from Ujjain to Kanpur.
A car accident occured on the way and just then Vikas Dubey snatched the gun of a policeman and opened fire, after which the police opened retaliatory firing. Vikas was shot dead as he tried to escape. He was spotted at Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain while buying prasad.
Just then he was apprehended by police officials, soon after, a lot of people gathered to see the police action outside the Mahakaal temple in Ujjain. Seeing the crowd, Vikas shouted at the top of his voice and said, “Main Vikas Dubey hoon, Kanpur wala! (I am Vikas Dubey, the Kanpur guy)”. During this time, he was being taken to a police jeep by ASI Rajendra Sharma and constable Vijay Rathore.
Constable Vijay Rathore, who was holding Vikas by the scruff of his neck, punched him on the head right before the arrest, and said: “Chup, aawaz nahin (Shut up, no sound).” Dubey zipped his lips and was pulled away by cops. A video of this has since gone viral.
Rathore, who had tested positive for COVID-19, has later recovered from the infection and recently posted at Mahakal Temple police station. Rathore told reporters that after a long period of silence, Vikas hissed to him: “Tujhe dekh lunga (I’ll see you).” Asked if he is worried by the threat, Rathore said, “I told him do whatever you like. We are servants of Lord Mahakaal. We are Mahakaal’s devotees. It is people like Vikas who should be afraid of us.”
Earlier, the Kanpur Police team went to Dubey’s Bikru village to arrest him where the deadly incident occurred. It is being told that Vikas Dubey had got the information of the raid hours before the police arrived.
When policemen reached his village, they found several JCB earthmoving vehicles parked on the road, blocking their way. The police team was forced to get down from their vehicle.
Just then the miscreants opened fire at the policemen. A gunfight broke out between the police personnel and the hiding perpetrators and police also fired in retaliation but the criminals had an advantage of being located on rooftops. In the deadly incident, 8 police personnel lost their lives. The attackers fled after the occurrence happened at night in Bikaru village. Police forces immediately launched the search operation to nab all accused.
