Amid the heightened tensions with China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the Indian government on Monday took an unprecedented step and has banned as many as 59 Chinese apps including TikTok.
The government has blocked 59 apps for safety, security, defence, sovereignty and integrity of India. Ghosh has welcomed the government’s move banning Chinese apps.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma on Monday has welcomed the Modi government’s decision and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for banning 59 Chinese apps including TikTok.
Rekha Sharma took to Twitter to share her views over the decision. She wrote, “Finally TikTok is banned in India.” “Mission accomplished” as she was earlier seeking a ban on TikTok for its objectionable content,” she added.
Rekha Sharma said, “It’s a big issue resolved. We are thankful to the government for banning the app. There have been repeated issues with it”. Earlier, the NCW chief had called for a ban on the Chinese video-sharing platform, saying the application is “pushing youngsters towards unproductive life”.
The government revealed that it has received many complaints from several sources including several reports about misuse of some mobile applications available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and secretively transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India.
The decision of banning Chinese apps was taken in the wake of India-China border standoff. The government banned the apps in order to protect the sovereignty of Indian Cyberspace and to ensure the interests of crores of Indian mobile users.
