Amid the coronavirus outbreak, a fake Baba, who proclaims himself as “Godman”, has died of COVID-19.
The fake godman was identified as Aslam Baba, who claimed that he could not be affected by COVID-19. He further claimed that he had a cure for the deadly coronavirus. He misled those who were not aware of how to take precautions to prevent coronavirus disease.
Hailing from Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh, Aslam Baba used to kiss hands of devotees to cure them of Covid-19 infection. Nodal officer Dr Pramod Prajapati said that 24 people who came in contact with the baba have been infected and fell prey to the superstitious activity.
It has been learnt that the accused would call himself “Corona Wale Baba” and had tested positive for the novel coronavirus on 3 June, due to which he lost his life. Speaking to ThePrint, Ratlam Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Tiwari said over 50 people were contact-traced after the godman’s death and put under quarantine.
He had been cheating on people by performing “black magic” and kissing their hands. In Ratlam alone, the confirmed positive cases of coronavirus have surpassed 80 so far, while at least four people have died from the infection.
The novel coronavirus outbreak has been in the news ever since it was detected in Wuhan, China. The deadly coronavirus has now claimed the lives of over 4 lakh people and infected more than 7.4 million people globally.
