Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi created a huge controversy after his distasteful comments on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kashmir.
Earlier, Shahid Afridi made controversial remarks on Kashmir during his recent visit to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). In a video clip which is doing the rounds on the social media platform, Shahid Afridi is seen spewing venom among the citizens at a village in PoK.
Afridi can be heard criticising Indian PM Narendra Modi for deploying a huge force in the Kashmir valley.
“I’ve been deeply humbled by all the love shown to me by the people of Kashmir. I hope that there will be a team from Kashmir in the next edition of the PSL. If there will be a team from Kashmir, I will want to play for that team. Afridi had also taken to Twitter to comment on Kashmir. “It does not take a religious belief to feel the agony of Kashmiris…just a right heart at the right place. Save Kashmir,” Shahid Afridi had written.
Indian cricketers, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina launched a scathing attack on Shahid Afridi for his controversial remarks.
After facing massive backlash from Indian cricketers, Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has come in support of India cricketers.
Danish Kaneria is currently serving a life ban for his involvement in spot-fixing scadal in England’s County cricket added that Shahid Afridi should think before speaking.
“Shahid Afridi should think before speaking on any matter. If he wants to join politics then he should quit all ties with cricket. It is important to stay away from cricket if you are speaking like a politician. Speeches like these create a negative image of Pakistan cricket not only in India but also around the world,” Kaneria told India TV.
Danish Kaneria added that on one hand Shahid Afridi took their help and on the other hand, he said many poisonous things about their country and their PM.
“He appealed for help from them and after getting the help you end up saying things about their country and PM. What sort of friendship is this?” questioned spinner Kaneria.
Kaneria was the only second Hindu cricketer after his uncle to ply his trade for Pakistan. He featured for Pakistan in 61 Tests and 18 ODIs picking 261 and 15 wickets respectively.
