In heartbreaking news, Indian actor Irrfan Khan passed away on Wednesday, his spokesperson confirmed it in an official statement. The flamboyant actor was 53 years old and was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai when he drew his last breath. Irrfan Khan is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikder, and two sons namely Babil and Ayan.

Paan Singh Tomar actor did his graduation in the year 1987 and then went to Mumbai with a dream to become an actor in Hindi cinema. He played roles in numberous television serials like ‘Chanakya’,’Sara Jahan Hamara’, ‘Banegi Apni Baat’ and ‘Chandrakanta’ (Doordarshan) and ‘Star Bestsellers’ (Star Plus), Sparsh, etc.
He kept on working in theatre and television until he got an offer from Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay in 1988. His work in “Paan Singh Tomar” film was remarkable which earned him a huge respect.
Bollywood actor appeared in several films either playing the leading role or a supporting role as a villain. In 2004, he won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his role in the film Haasil. His international recognition came when he portrayed the role of a Non Resident Bengali Professor in the USA in the lead role of the English movie The Namesake directed by Mira Nair.
Irrfan Khan tied the knot with writer Sutapa Sikdar who’s also an NSD graduate and they have a son named Babil. Khan was suffering from a colon infection, due to which he was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Tuesday.
The actor was suffering from Neuroendocrine tumour, an unusual type of cancer. He had earlier disclosed about his disease he was struggling with. Several Bollywood celebrities extended their condolences to Irrfan’s family on social media.
Last year, the actor went to London where he took medical treatment for the neuroendocrine tumour. After the treatment, he came back to India. Recently, the experienced actor was hospitalized in Mumbai where he was being treated.
Magnificent actor touched the pinnacle of his career when he was part of many Hollywood projects, from Jurassic World to Slumdog Millionaire. Irrfan Khan was the only actor in the world to be part of 12 oscar-winning movies. It is indeed a mind-boggling record.
On Saturday, Irrfan’s mother Saeeda Begum passed away in Jaipur. Unfortunately, the actor couldn’t attend the funeral owing to the nationwide lockdown. Meanwhile, filmmaker Shoojit Sircar tweeted his condolences for the extraordinary actor.
“My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om shanti. Irfaan Khan salute,” wrote Shoojit, who directed Irrfan in Piku.
Celebrities mourn the demise of Irrfan Khan. Amitabh Bachchan said that his loss would create a huge vaccum: “Just getting news of the passing of Irfaan Khan .. this is a most disturbing and sad news .. An incredible talent .. a gracious colleague .. a prolific contributor to the World of Cinema .. left us too soon .. creating a huge vacuum .. Prayers and duas.”
On Irrfan Khan’s death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote that the actor will be remembered for his versatile performances across different mediums. The prime minister tweeted, “Irrfan Khan’s demise is a loss to the world of cinema and theatre. He will be remembered for his versatile performances across different mediums. My thoughts are with his family, friends and admirers. May his soul rest in peace”.
