In heartbreaking news, Indian actor Irrfan Khan passed away on Wednesday, his spokesperson confirmed it in an official statement. The flamboyant actor was 53 years old and was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai when he drew his last breath. Irrfan Khan is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikder, and two sons namely Babil and Ayan.
Irrfan Khan made his Bollywood debut with Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay in 1988, and has worked in many films since then. He touched the pinnacle of his career when he was part of many Hollywood projects, from Jurassic World to Slumdog Millionaire.
“I trust, i have surrendered’; These were the words that the actor expressed in a heartfelt note in 2018, speaking about his battle with cancer.
Irrfan was a strong character and was some who fought the deadly disease till the very end. In fact, he had always inspired everyone who came close to him. “As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it”,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Shoojit Sircar tweeted his condolences for the extraordinary actor.
“My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om shanti. Irfaan Khan salute,” wrote Shoojit, who directed Irrfan in Piku.
It was on Tuesday, Bollywood actor Irrfan was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai owing to a colon infection.
Irrfan’s spokesperson had earlier issued a statement on Wednesday while also urging people to not panic or believe in false rumours about the actor’s health. He had also assured the fans and followers that they will be kept updated regarding the same.
The complete statement from Irrfan’s spokesperson earlier today read: “It’s really disappointing to know that there are extreme assumptions being made about Irrfan’s health. While we are truly appreciative that people are concerned, it’s disheartening to see some sources spread extreme rumours and creating panic. Irrfan is a strong person and is still fighting the battle. We really request you to not fall for rumours and not partake in these conversations which are fictional. We have always actively clarified and shared updates on his health and we will continue doing so.”
On Saturday, Irrfan’s mother Saeeda Begum passed away in Jaipur. Unfortunately, the actor couldn’t attend the funeral owing to the nationwide lockdown.
