Amid lockdown, former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy had no worries or fears about breaking lockdown orders as he went ahead with his son’s wedding that saw around 60-70 people marking their presence at the function as per various media reports.
While the whole nation is under lockdown until at least May 3, it is not stopping politicians from hosting gatherings, ceremonies in various states with people turning up in numbers to grace the occasion.
In a grand wedding outside Bengaluru in Ramanagara, HD Kumaraswamy son Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s wedding took place at the farmhouse. It has been learnt that the media was restricted from entering the Ramanagara district and around 30-40 cars were seen moving towards the location from Bengaluru.
However, there seemed to be no sign of social distancing as everyone stood close together which is strictly prohibited amid lockdown.
Despite the nationwide lockdown and virus warnings, HD Kumaraswamy refused to defer the wedding in the first place. In a video on Thursday, the Janata Dal Secular leader added that the event had been moved from Bengaluru, a “red zone” for COVID-19, to Ramanagara, his assembly constituency and also asked his supporters to maintain a distance.
“I request my well-wishers with folded hands with pain and apologies. At a later date, when these problems are solved, we will have a big reception and invite you all,” he said.
Needless to say, with close to 70 people in attendance, there was clearly no intention of following lockdown norms.
While Karnataka Deputy CM identified as Ashwath Narayan has said action would be taken against the former CM without a second thought if norms were not followed in the wedding, the shocking question is that why was the permission given?
These scenes didn’t go down well with netizens.
Karnataka has so far recorded 359 coronavirus cases, while 13 have died.
