At a time when millions of people across the country are searching for hand sanitizers to protect themselves from the spread of the COVID-19, a fake hand sanitizer manufacturing unit has been seized by police and the man who was selling fake hand sanitizers in Hyderabad has been arrested.
At a time when the entire country is in shock due to Coronavirus fears, fake sanitizers are being sold in the market. The Indian government is making all possible efforts to bring the deadly virus under control, but a sanitizer manufacturing company, on the other hand, is cheating on people by distributing duplicate sanitizers and face masks.
As sleuths of the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Rachakonda received information about fake products, they along with police officers of Hyderabad and Ayush Drug Inspector from Telangana, raided the duplicate hand sanitizer manufacturing unit and recovered the fake products.
It is said that Police have seized 25,000 units of 100 ml sanitizers and raw materials worth Rs 40 lakh. It has been learnt after the investigation that the accused have manufactured and marketed 1 lakh bottles worth Rs 1,44,00,000 so far.
The duplicate hand sanitizer manufacturing unit was busted at Charlapally area of the city at the limits of Kushaiguda police station. Telangana has been seeing the shortage of sanitizers and face masks since the coronavirus pandemic.
Three suspected have been arrested by the police in connection with fake products. One of the accused has been identified as Kakarlapudi Krishna Kiran the Managing Director of Seven Hills Softgel Company of Hyderabad and Vemuri Venkata Subramanyam, General Manager of the company.
In another case, three more accused have been arrested and 2500 bottles of sanitizer and raw materials worth Rs 10 lakh were recovered. The accused Kakarlapudi Krishna Kiran got a license under the name of Ayush Softgel Capsules & Syrups in 2018 and set up a factory in the industrial area of Hyderabad and started manufacturing Ayush Softgel Capsules and Syrups.
As sales of hand sanitizers hit the market after the coronavirus attacked India, both the accused started manufacturing hand sanitizers without getting a license or following the guidelines set by Drug & Ayush Departments.
Soon, They started manufacturing fake products exponentially under the name Semuns Cleansem Hand Sanitisers, Kausthuba Coclean 19 and Medipro Hand Sanitiser. The group then started selling these products across the state with a view to earning money in the hour of crisis.
The novel coronavirus outbreak has now claimed the lives of over 15,000 people and infected more than 3.2 lakh people globally. The COVID-19 outbreak has also spoiled the international calendar of various sporting events all across the world.
COVID-19 has created an atmosphere of fear in the world. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreak as a ‘pandemic’. So far, there have been more than 450 confirmed cases of the virus in India as per the health ministry.
