Some media outlets reported that Tanmoy Chakraborty, who hails from Assam’s Lumding, Tanmoy has brought laurels to the state as he has been nominated to be part of Young Scientist Competition organized by NASA.
As per media outlets, Tanmoy, Class 12 student has invented the machine which would be able to detect the presence of an earthquake in 48 to 72 hours in advance. Tanmoy’s impressive invention earned him a chance to go to NASA to take part in the Young Scientist Competition as per media reports.
SentinelAssam, com reported that Tanmoy also received an appreciation letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union minister Smriti Irani. Tanmoy is currently studying in Class XII from Bikash Vidyaniketan at Visakhapatnam.
The 17-year-old boy from Lumding, Assam, has also been invited at the 35th grand annual American Society for Gravitational and Space Research (ASGSR) meet to present his final research work on earthquake forecast in Colorado, US.
According to his research works, theoretically, earthquakes can be detected around 42 hours ahead of its actual occurrence. He also added that many scientists have researched on earthquakes but the time limit given is 25 seconds, which is very less, as we need more time to take precautionary measures.
Chakraborty said, “I have made two plans. First plan is censor based, where there is some magnetic concept. So if the magnetic field is easily detected then we will go for the second plan. And suppose, if my project is fails, I have made another emergency case. In that, we will built a house in such a way, for both heavy houses and light weight houses, that we can somehow save the people’s life which is the primary need and also the country’s economy, because it is also important for us.”
Speaking with EastMojo, Tanmay said, “Because in my region, what I saw, many people are affected by earthquakes, especially in Arunachal Pradesh and other state of Northeast too.” He said, many lives are lost due to earthquakes, and that is why he chooses this topic.
Tanmoy was also selected for the national-level of Jawaharlal Nehru National Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition for Children. Tanmay is looking forwar to building the device and give it to the Indian government to help people.
Tanmay’s father, Sujeet Chakraborty, who is a school teacher said, “He will truly be proud of his son the day his work saves lives of people across the globe.”
However, the entire story of Tanmoy Chakraborty seems to be ‘fake news’ as it lacks authentication. It is nothing but imagination and full of lies. Manabendra Saharia who works at NASA as hydrologist took to his social media account and wrote that NASA has an outreach office that distributes educational materials for free including the certificates that can be used for achievement awards to students. Anyone can get print out from the organisation’s website. Saharia also went on to add saying that one of these certificates that Tanmoy Chakraborty has used with his name on it to mislead media outlets.
