It is good to see students coming up with ingenious innovations across the country only to make people’s lives better. From ideas to productive inventions, smart brains are impacting the lives of millions these days. It is not that easy to invent as it requires many ingredients like observation, interest, patience and perseverance. Above all, they need hard work and smart work.
Needless to say, some transformative inventions tend to happen when the philosophy is put into practice. Today, we will learn about the story of Avant Garde Innovations, the startup which was set up by siblings Arun and Anoop George from the Indian state Kerala.
Just like other aspiring minds, this duo came up with an idea of saving electricity for a prolonged period. They came up with a low-cost wind turbine that can power enough electricity so much so that it can power an entire house for a lifetime. Isn’t this a super-cool invention? Yes, it is.
The wind turbine is in the size of a ceiling fan and it can generate 5 kWh/kW per day. Considering its price and easy instalment, the Avant Garde windmills are pretty certain to change the electricity situation in rural areas in the country.
Currently, most wind turbines which are imported to India cost up to Rs. 2 lakh. But Arun and Anoop’s invention will cost around Rs. 50,000 which is less than the cost of iPhone.
Arun George told The Quint, “This is the revolution we are trying to bring into the industry: making energy affordable for the common man.”
With an initial investment of Rs. 50,000, consumers get free electricity for the lifecycle of the wind turbine, which is expected to be twenty years.“That’s one of the big advantages to this,” Arun says.
The company had launched its pilot project at a church in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram in January. It should be noted that the small wind turbine prototype that it has developed is highly scalable for power capacities of 300 kW or even much higher.
This revolutionary product is nothing short of a spectacular invention and it was no surprise that this product won them a place in the Top 20 Cleantech Innovations in India.
