Telangana Police have reportedly shot dead the four accused of gangraping a veterinary doctor near a toll plaza in Hyderabad. According to police, all aged between 20 and 24 years, tried to escape the clasp of police when they were brought to the spot to recreate the scene of that night.
The police had told them to display how they committed the crime and killed Dr. Reddy, but they had to open fire when the culprits made an attempt to flee. Media reports suggest that relatives and friends of the victim are joyful after hearing the news, and so are the parents of Nirbhaya whose daughter fell victim to a gang of rapists in Delhi in 2012.
People on social media are pouring praises upon the police for killing the accused. Some activists, on the other side, have raised questions on the work of the police. Delivering justice to the victim’s family is no work of the police, but the court.
The country runs on the grounds of laws and rules, if forces try to become a hero to woo crowds, it will bring in chaos. The crowd should not decide the punishment, but the system. Advocate Vrinda Grover suggested and FIR should be registered against the police their action is absolutely not acceptable in a civilised society. Meanwhile, the local citizens of Telangana have raised slogans in support of police.
On November 27, Disha (name changed), a 26-year-old veterinarian surgeon from Hyderabad was gangraped and killed allegedly by the four accused, who are natives of Narayanpet district, at Thondupally toll gate on Outer Ring Road, Shamshabad.
The gang who were driving a lorry abducted her by deflating one of her two-wheeler’s tyres which she parked near the toll gate. Around 9 pm, when she arrived the spot to take her vehicle, she learnt that the tyre was punctured. At this time, the men approached her saying they would help her fix the tyre. They then forcibly took her to nearby bushes, assaulted, gang-raped and killed her.
After that, they burned her body at Chatanpally village under Shadnagar police station limits, a few kms away from the spot where she was murdered.

In a massive development in the gangrape and murder case of a veterinary surgeon in Hyderabad, the four accused who are involved in the case namely Areef, Shiva, Naveen and Chennakeshavulu have been shot dead by the Telangana police in an alleged encounter operation. The police, however, conceded that the accused who were taken to the crime spot for a reconstruction of the crime tried to flee away. Seeing this, Two policemen were also injured in the incident, they said.
Seeing this, the policemen shot the accused in the same place where Disha’s body was burnt after she was gangraped and killed. In the encounter operation, two policemen were injured and nothing much serious. It is to be noted that the accused had been taken to the scene of the crime at Chatanpally which is 50 km away from Hyderabad, on Thursday in order to pick evidence of the crime.
The reports of the alleged encounter surfaced today morning. Additional DG Law and Order, Jitender, told TNM that the incident took place after 6 am on Friday.
DCP Prakash Reddy, at the scene of the incident, told TNM that there was a sudden crossfire as the accused took the guns of the policemen and tried to escape. The incident took place between 6 and 6.30 am, he said.
