In an extraordinary tale that took the whole world by surprise, a Chinese woman convinced her 20 boyfriends to gift 20 iPhones 7. This is not the end of the story. She wasn’t interested in these gadgets as she sold all these devices on a recycling site only to buy a new house.
Quite interestingly, she managed to earn around £725 for each device and then used the cash to put down a deposit on a house. This case was brought to light on a Chinese blogging platform by Tian Ya Yi Du, written by someone using the pseudonym ‘Proud Qiaoba’.
It happened in Xiaoli, from the city of Shenzhen in southern China. After she received the 20 newly launched iPhone 7 from her boyfriends, she sold them to a mobile phone recycling site known as Hui Shou Bao for 120,000 Chinese yuan (approximately £14,500).
The house she purchased was originally in the countryside, and when she showed her new home to their group of friends, they were all stunned when she disclosed the way she got that much money.
Some tried to understand her by explaining she is not from a wealthy family, her mother being a housewife and her father a migrant worker. As the oldest daughter and her parents are getting old, she may be under a lot of pressure to buy them a house.
Since many people thought it was suspicious after hearing the story, BBC Trending soon approached Hui Shou Bao and a company spokesperson had confirmed they had bought 20 iPhones from a female client on October 2018 and paid 6,000 Chinese yuan (approximately £725) for each one.
