In a competitive world, where India is more into the era of scientific technology, research & development and several other factors lifting the nation’s morale, some people of this nation still believe in superstitious beliefs like ‘good luck’, ‘bad luck’, a practice that was followed since ancient times.
Hailing from Jaunpur, UP, a man by the name of Chintaharan Chauhan has been dressing up as a bride for the past 30 years owing to superstition and the fear of death.
He is 66 years old and is residing in Hauzkhas village in Jalalpur. He has reportedly been wearing bride clothes- donning a red saree, nose ring, earrings and bangles in order to escape or defeat death.
“I have lost 14 members of my family in the past years and the chain of deaths stopped only after I started dressing up as a bride,” Gulf News reported him as saying.
Apparently, he was married when he was 14 years old but his wife passed away within a few months. When he turned 21, he remarried but his family had objected to the marriage. When he left, his second wife could not tolerate the grief and hence ended up taking the extreme step to commit suicide.
His family had reportedly asked him to marry once again and the third marriage too turned out to be miserable. Just a few months after his third marriage, he fell ill and slowly one by one his family members started to die.
“A few months after my third marriage, I fell ill and one by one my family members started dying. My father Ram Jiyavan, elder brother Chotau, his wife Indravati, their two sons, younger brother Badau died in quick succession. Then my brothers’ three daughters and four sons also died,” Gulf News quoted him as saying.
Then his second wife, who regularly came in his dreams, reportedly spoke to him. “She would accuse me of betraying her and would cry loudly. One day in my dream, I begged for forgiveness and asked her to spare me and my family. She asked me to keep her with me by dressing up as a bride and I agreed. Since that day, I have been dressing up as a bride and the deaths in the family have stopped,” he reportedly said.
In the latest development, his health and other things started improving. He reportedly said, “In the beginning, people laughed at me but I have done this to save my family. People now sympathies with me.”
