“Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks.” Painting can evoke our emotions and can even instil a sense of pride.
Artists convey a beautiful story or a message in the form of painting and stories of paintings sold at auction for millions are many these days.
Recently, an old painting was found in the French lady’s kitchen for a whopping Rs 2.66 crore. Yes, the painting was sold at a massive price and she literally had no idea about how expensive the painting actually is and she didn’t even pay much attention to it. The painting might be old but it was actually precious that turned her into a millionaire.
The painting was made by an Italian painter Cimabue, which was sold for $26.6 million (Rs 2.66 crore), on Sunday. It has been learnt that the painting was sold to an anonymous buyer near Chantilly, North of Paris, by Dominique Le Coent of Acteon Auction House.
“It’s a painting that was unique, splendid and monumental. Cimabue was the father of the Renaissance. But this sale goes beyond all our dreams,” Le Coent told Associated Press.
It is worth mentioning here that the painting is called the ‘Christ Mocked’ and it measures about 10 inches by 8 inches.
It was the auctioneer who had spotted the painting in the woman’s house during the inspection and he told her to bring it to the experts for evaluation.
The old painting was hung on the wall between the kitchen and dining room and the auction house said that the woman will get huge money from the sale.
“There’s never been a Cimabue painting on sale so there was no reference previously on how much it could make,” Le Coent explained.
