In a shocking development in Lucknow, the former chief of Hindu Mahasabha Kamlesh Tiwari was shot dead at his residence in Lucknow this afternoon. The leader of Hindu Mahasabha brutally attacked by unknown miscreants on Friday afternoon.
Following the unexpected attack, he was admitted to a nearby local hospital and the doctors declared brought dead on arrival. Meanwhile, police started a probe in the matter.
If sources are to be believed, police have started investigating the cell phone details of the leader and CCTV footage is being quizzed to identify the accused.
Eyewitnesses say, two strangers, one of whom hid his face by wearing a saffron scarf, met with him on the pretext of giving Diwali sweets and, once inside his residence, allegedly slit his throat and shot him several times with a firearm before fleeing the spot.
Mr Tiwari died while he was being rushed to the hospital. The police have recovered a pistol from the scene of the crime and are yet to find the culprits.
Kamlesh Tiwari was the one who founded the Hindu Samaj Party 2 years ago. In 2015, he allegedly made infamous remarks against the Prophet Muhammad, which stirred a massive controversy and protests.
He was arrested in link-up with the case and charged under the National Security Act (NSA), which the Allahabad High Court recently revoked.
