In good news for India, Manju Rani displayed grit and determination in the World Boxing Championships as she settled for Silver medal in the 48kg category final.
After she bagged Silver, the Indian women’s boxing contingent ended the World Boxing Championships campaign with a superb record of four medals.
19-year-old Manju missed out on winning the yellow metal bout 1-4 against 2nd seed Ekaterina Paltceva of Russia.
However, she came through with flying colours as the top-notch Indian performer in this edition. This was Manju’s first appearance at the World Championships.
Previously, Manju beat her opponent- Chuthamat Raksat of Thailand 4-1 in the semi-finals to become the first-ever Indian in 18 years to enter the final in his/her maiden appearance at the event.
It should be noted that Indian women boxers were in contention on Day 9 of the Worlds in Russia but only 19-year-old Manju made it through to the final.
