Talking about the importance of sports in India, our athletes are proving their worth the weight in gold. Most people talk only about cricket because of the media that keeps highlighting cricketers alone whereas the other sports are being overshadowed.
Let’s learn to appreciate every sport because all of them play for India. The sport may be different but the equation of representing the nation with pride is always the same.
Indian golfer Viraj Madappa hogged the limelight for winning the maiden title on the Asian Tour at Take Solutions Masters in Bengaluru. He went about his business and played really well.
He carded a four-under 67 in the 4th and the last round to register a two-shot victory. By doing that, he became the youngest Indian to win on the Asian tour.
“It’s incredible really. My family has been very supportive. My mum is here with me today. I want to thank my parents and my coach, Tarun Sardesai, with whom I have been working for some time now,” he said in a release.
Talking about his style of play and strategy, he said, “I was riding off their energy. Winning the tournament did cross my mind when I birdied the 16th hole but I was just trying to stay in the present and hit every shot I could the right way. I think I did a good job there. I didn’t back off from the situation, even though I had the opportunity to lay up on the 18th hole. I decided to go for the green and I’m proud that I made that decision.”
