Syed Akbaruddin, who is country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, credited his efforts of naming Masood Azhar as a ‘global terrorist’ to following the approach of MS Dhoni.
“I am a believer in M S Dhoni’s approach… thinking that there is more time than what you think there is while trying to fulfil any goal. Never say time’s up. Never give up early,” he said while speaking to The Indian Express.
In fact, China was the only nation against the decision and once it changed its stance, Azhar’s name was marked on the list. This also means his financial assets will be frozen and that he will not be allowed to travel internationally and shall not be able to afford to buy arms and ammunition.
“After careful study of the revised materials and taking into consideration the opinions of relevant parties concerned, China does not have objection to the listing proposal,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang added.
Previously, China stood in the way of designating Azhar as a ‘global terrorist’ in the year 2009, 2016 and 2017 respectively.
It’s indeed a moral victory for India against a terrorist group that created destruction in India. Also, Jaish-e-Mohammad is known to be the mastermind behind the 2001 Parliament attack and Pathankot in 2016. It also claimed the lives of over 40 CRPF Jawans in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on February 14 this year.
