Kanishka Kataria, a BTech (Computer Science and Engineering) student from IIT Bombay made his parents proud by topping the civil services final examination, which was announced by UPSC. After this massive achievement, the topper Kanishka Kataria thanked his girlfriend for him cracking the toughest exam.
The topper himself told that he never expected to get the first rank. Besides thanking his girlfriend, he thanked his parents, sister for the much-needed assistance and moral support.

“It’s a very surprising moment. I never expected to get the 1st rank. I thank my parents, sister & my girlfriend for the help & moral support. People will expect me to be a good administrator & that’s exactly my intention,” Kanishka Kataria, an IIT Bombay student, told while speaking to news agency ANI.
Interestingly, this is the first time that a UPSC topper has thanked their girlfriend/boyfriend for their epic success in the UPSC final examination. UPSC also announced Srushti Jayant Deshmukh as the topper among women candidates who secured an overall fifth rank.
According to a UPSC statement, a total of 759 candidates (i.e. 577 men and 182 women) have been recommended by the Commission for recruitment to various services like IAS, IPS, IFS etc. Kanishka Kataria belongs to SC category and qualified the exam with mathematics as his optional subject.
As far as Deshmukh is concerned, she is a BE (Chemical Engineering) from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal and is the topper among the women candidates securing an overall fifth rank, the statement said.
