Would you believe that a baby was born the size of an onion? really hard to believe! But sometimes, there are exceptional cases in which we come across strangest of things and this is one. A Japanese baby boy was born too small after which the doctors kept him in the Intensive Care Unit for months. However, after gaining some good weight and health, he was discharged.
As per Reuters, the baby boy was born through “Caesarean-section” last August after he failed to “gain weight” during pregnancy and doctors thought his life was in real danger.
Just as he touched the 3.2 kg mark, he was discharged from the hospital. “I am grateful that he has grown this big because, honestly, I wasn’t sure he could survive,” the boy’s mother told Reuters.
Japan Times reported doctors treated him at a “neonatal intensive care unit” by deftly managing his breathing and nutrition, which is why the baby gained weight before he was discharged.
The earlier record was held by a baby boy born in Germany in 2009 as he weighed just 274 grams, according to the Tiniest Babies registry managed by the University of Iowa and the smallest girl was born weighing ‘252 grams’ in Germany in 2015, as per the registry, reports Reuters.
