West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made the headlines recently when she said that at least 90 per cent of the people in West Bengal are getting rice at Rs 2 per kg.
On Khadya Sathi Divas, West Bengal CM said that her government has been offering special assistance to those in Jangalmahal as well as the Hills and Aila-affected areas including farmers of Singur along with tea garden workers and the Toto tribe, according to TOI.
“Today is #KhadyaSathiDibas. We have ensured food security of 8.5 crore+ people of ItBangle who get rice at Rs 2/kg. We provide special assistance to those in Jangalmahal & Hill & Aila-affected areas, farmers of Singur, tea garden workers & the Toto tribe,” Mamata Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle yesterday.
The Khadya Sathi scheme was initiated by the West Bengal chief minister on January 27, 2016, a day after Republic day.
According to this scheme that is being to full effect, almost 90 per cent of the state’s population would get rice and wheat only at Rs 2 per kg. It has been said that around 50 lakh more would get the same at half the market price.
