In what is good news for the passengers, Indian Railways announced that it will soon develop a system which will give access to passengers to see the details of vacant seats and berths via online itself, as reported by the Times Of India.
Once this new system is implemented, we can see the vacant seats in the train including the seat numbers, quite similar to that of the online bus ticket booking. Not just that! You can also see the live seats. For instance, the vacant seats on a train that has already started out from its source station.
As far as the officials are concerned, it will be a tad complex given that each train will have multiple stops on its journey and passengers either board or deboard the train at different stations.
The TOI report adds: The railway ministry will soon take up the issue with the Centre for Rail Information System (CRIS) for an immediate solution so that the passengers can get ‘live updates of seats’ which are available for booking, which will give the passengers a sigh of relief.
Railways is also ready to make a booked chart available online for the passengers, if possible. In order to protect the passengers’ privacy, they will only mention the PNR numbers.
