A sensational development and changes are gradually creeping in as the PM Narendra Modi’s government is already on an important mission to transform the entire infrastructure of the Indian Railways. The future of the Indian trains will look far better than before.
Metro trains in India are all set to get a massive upgrade and the commuters will get a realistic bullet train-like experience. These technically-advanced coaches will mark its presence in Kolkata as the East-West metro line is getting world class coaches from Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML). The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation will supply 14 six-coach rakes to the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC).
The work has already started with 3 of the 4 coaches already reaching the city and are undergoing trials. The fourth coach is expected to arrive this month. By January 2019, the KMRC aims to start commercial runs between Sector V and Salt Lake Stadium. The coaches are a bit similar to bullet train coaches but the Kolkata metro coaches will be completely made of aluminium instead of steel.
Speaking to TOI, D K Hota, chairman and managing director of BEML, said “National High-Speed Corporation is looking at Hitachi, Kawasaki and Mitsubishi for 240 coaches by 2022-23.
The technology is so good that the trains would not only have automatic doors but will also chip in with other facilities such as super-comfortable seating, vacuum toilets, space for wheelchairs and disabled friendly restrooms.
The futuristic trains that are currently being developed under the PM Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign. The trains will also give diffused lighting and Global Positioning System-based Passenger Information System.
