Recently, India’s volleyball hit the headlines after their women’s and men’s teams (U-21) won silver and bronze medals respectively in the 2nd edition of the BRICS Games at Johannesburg. South Africa, an achievement outside India is something to be really proud of.
Their head coach couldn’t have asked for a better response from the players including both men and women who gave absolutely everything to seal the big deal. As far as the women’s team is concerned, they created history on Friday as they went above and beyond to clinch the silver medal for the very first time in this iconic event. Chinese women won gold while South Africa settled for a bronze medal.

Talking about the Indian men’s team, they lost 2-3 to China (21-25. 25-23. 25-22. 22-25.10-15) in a tight titanic tussle in their last round-robin league match on Sunday. Russia settled for the gold ahead of China. It is learnt that more than 200 athletes from the five member nations such as Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa took part during the opening ceremony of the games on Tuesday.
“The significance of BRIGS Games is to create an opportunity for our young people to get to know each another. We use the power of sport as the universal language to get them to play. to interact and to teach to respect within the rules.” Gert Oosthuizen. South Africa’s deputy sports minister, said at the opening ceremony according to Times of India.
