Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri was in the spotlight quite recently when he made an emotional appeal to the fans across the nation to get behind the team in the ongoing intercontinental Cup tournament. In an attempt to popularise the sport in India, he urged the fans to come to the stadium.
After his appeal, the response was so good from the fans that they turned up in numbers and changed the atmosphere with chorus support during India’s match against Kenya. Sunil Chhetri and his teammates were mighty pleased with the response and they didn’t disappoint the fans as they played with grit and determination to outsmart Kenya in all aspects of the game.
Chhetri chipped in with 2 goals followed by Lalpekhlua’s goal as India trounce Kenya by 3-0. The the match tickets were already sold out for today’s match between India and New Zealand. With the kind of support that the Indian football team received recently, it is very much certain that the Indian football revolution has just begun.
The support was not just in the stadium but was also seen off the field as well. In what was a classy gesture by the Kerala fans in India, they showed support to the Indian football team with a tribute poster. It is very nice to see this change when it comes to football in this country.
