We often mourn the bad conditions of Indian sports. We get upset when Indian athletes fail to fetch medals from the Olympics. In the summer Olympics 2016, India clinched barely 2 medals while neighboring China 70. Our country stood at 67th position on the medal table. It is a matter of shame that a country of 1.3 billion people stand at 67th position in a global event.
The question is why does our nation display poor performances at International level? Are our athletes not good enough to compete at global level? Do they lack ability in grabbing medals in big events abroad? No, our athletes have all the ability to get the country medals but they never get support from Government, Media and Public. Here is the story has a bodybuilder who has conquered the world, yet hardly anyone knows him.
Story of Arambam Boby
Bodybuilders look different from the others. It’s beca use of the fact that they do special exercises regularly and push themselves beyond their limits to strengthen their muscles. Day by day, they grow bigger and better.
They always feel a great sense of accomplishment after hitting the gym with proper workout sessions. Above all, they follow a strict diet to keep themselves as fit as a fiddle. They consume large amounts of protein so that they can achieve the shape of a clear-cut body.
Though most of us dream to be bodybuilders, only very few of us get to taste the essence of it. But there is only one who has been thoroughly dominating the field, he is none other than ‘Arambam Boby Singh’. He is the Eight-Time World Champion (6 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze).
Arambam Boby Singh shot into prominence when he won his first Mr. World title in the year 2010 in the ’75 category’ for bodybuilding championship in Varanasi, India. He hasn’t had the best of academic career owing to family circumstances where he could complete his education up to Matriculation only.
Boby earlier was introduced as a gymnast when he joined the Sports Authority of India (SAI) located at Langol, in 1989. Four years later, he joined Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) as a constable under their sports promotion program and switched his field to athletics and became a sprinter in 100 and 200 meters.
Boby’s bodybuilding career kick-started in the year 1995. In the next year itself, he claimed the Mr. Manipur Junior (Overall Title) and Mr. Manipur Senior (Overall Title). He received countless praises from the fans and also got the privilege to represent India in the Jr. Asian Body Building Championship held in Delhi in 1996.
Having gained a great deal of recognition, Indian Railways made a proposal to Boby to join them in 1997. Arambam Boby gleefully accepted the offer and joined them. He had gone from strength to strength in his career as he had won the title of Mr. India in 1998, Mister World in 2010.
