Sheer negligence on the part of MY Hospital management surfaced in the death of a man, whose body was found lying unattended and being eaten by ant on the hospital main gate late on Wednesday night.
It was learnt that due to poor health condition and in absence of any attender, the man died in want of treatment as he failed to catch attention of any official concerned.
The incident came to fore after some passersby noticed the body swarmed with flesh-eating ants and informed the same to the medical officer serving during night hours.
“Body of around 45-year-old man was lying unattended near the casualty ward. It was sent to mortuary room by the time cops from MYH outpost was informed about the incident” said the head-constable, Ramgopal Verma (Sanyogitaganj police station).
He added no member from the victim’s family has thus far come to fore. Identity of the person is yet to be known. Postmortem of the deceased was performed on Thursday while the police was waiting for the short-postmortem report.
“It was learnt that somebody has left the person near the casualty ward on Wednesday morning as his condition did not seem good from his appearance. A case has been registered in the matter while further investigation is underway” Verma said.
“I have come to know about the incident. A three-members committee has been constituted to probe the issue to decide further course of action” the hospital superintendent, Dr VS Pal said.
It was however not the first incident, as in a similar incident reported last year, body of a few days old girl was found being eaten by ants while it was kept in the mortuary for post-mortem. Medical negligence was leveled by the girl’s family members in her death.
