Biopics have definitely become the trend in Bollywood. While the biopic on Manmohan Singh, ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, has been the hot topic of discussion for a while now, the latest buzz in B-town is that Khiladi Kumar will essay the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a biopic.
Undoubtedly PM Narendra Modi is the most popular and influential leaders of our time. According to February 2017 report, by a global public relations and communications firm, Modi is the most followed leader on Facebook. So it is not surprising that the film industry is anticipating to make his biopic.
If the recent buzz is anything to go by then this year’s National Award winner for Best Actor, Akshay Kumar, will play NaMo in his biopic. It is also around that many other veteran actors like Paresh Rawal, Anupam Kher and Victor Banerjee have been considered but Aksay is close to bagging it because of his widespread appeal.
While reactions to this have been diverse in social media, the BJP leader and yesteryear actor Shatrughan Sinha ratified the choice stating, “Akshay is the Mr.Clean of India. His image goes well with the image of the New Shining India.”
Many gave a thumbs-up for the selection but CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) Chairperson, Pahlaj Nihalani, seems to be the happiest. He was all praises for the Rustom star and said that AK is the best choice for the biopic due to his spotless image of an idealist and visionary. Nihalani also mentioned that because Akshay belongs to a “humble middle-class background”, it makes him a lot similar to PM Modi.
Nihalani, however, sounded hypocritical when he called AK’s new project, ‘Padman’, to be a cinematic work of social reform but tagged ‘Phullu’, a film that addresses the same issue as Padman, A-rated.
A frisson of excitement rippled through the fans on hearing the deadly combo of AK playing NaMo. The 49-year old actor has taken philanthropy like it’s his job and thanks to the genre of films he has chosen, we believe that he is going to ace the role of Narendra Modi.
However no official statement has been made yet. The film on Narendra Modi is still at an incipient stage and is expected to take some time before it goes into the production. Meanwhile Akshay Kumar is working on ‘Padman’ and is awaiting the release of his upcoming romantic-comedy ‘Toilet:Ek Prem Katha’.
