People with physical disability are usually demotivated and have lost all their hopes from life and seek for help all around, where there is a child Tuhin Dey, resident of West Midnapore district from West Bengal, is using it to his advantage.
He is not an ordinary child and is confined to a wheelchair, has got National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement in 2012 and Best Creative Child Award with Disabilities in 2013 from President Pranab Mukherjee.
Tuhin, a 17-years old boy, is suffering from Cerebral Palsy that has blocked the mobility of joints, used his mouth to write in Class 10th Board examinations and his chin to operate all electronic gadgets like calculator, laptop etc. He did not take anyone’s help in writing examination and not even asked for an extra time which is given by rule to the handicapped or disabled children.
He has been referred as India’s “Stephen Hawking” who also had almost same disease, but doctors mention that Tuhin does not have the disease which Stephen Hawkings has, but one thing is very common in both and that is there brain is not affected by the disease. Doctors believe that one needs brain to survive, and not brawn.
He is now in Kota, preparing for his engineering entrance examination of IIT and hopes to do further post-graduation from Oxford University. He has a dream to meet Mr. Stephen Hawking, as he Tuhin’s real hero.
Since his birth in 1999, Tuhin has undergone more than 20 surgeries which did not deter this boy from his goal. He has been declared 90% handicapped by the doctors, which is not curable as per them. Tuhin’s father, Samiran is in real estate business, whereas his Mother, Sujata left her government job to focus on her child’s dreams and his health. They have shifted to Kota for their child’s preparations for IIT entrance exams.
Tuhin has a big dream of becoming a Cosmologist in future and meet his super-hero Stephen Hawking. With this zeal, we are sure that he will achieve his goals someday.
