Once again Mary Kom makes India proud, wins Gold medal in Poland

Sports is not always about defeating the opponents but is about overcoming the challenges and obstacles, and Mary Kom has got everything in her to inspire the youths of the nation. Her attitude and courage in the face of adversity is well and truly inspiring. She once again hit the headlines for her massive achievement.

To put in simple terms, there is no stopping Mary Kom. She won a gold medal in Poland in the 48 kg category in the 13th Silesian Open Boxing tournament for women. Interestingly, this is Mary Kom’s third gold medal of this year. This goes to show that how dominant she has been in the ring.

The five-time world champion proved that she’s worth her weight in gold when she performed better even after returning to the ring after recuperating from some niggles which kept her away from the Asian Games. The former Olympic bronze-medallist succeeded 5-0 against Kazakhstan’s Aigerim Kassanayeva to bag India’s lone senior category gold.

Apart from her recent gold medal, the other two gold medals which came this year was in the inaugural India Open in Delhi and the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. She also clinched a silver medal at the prestigious Strandja Memorial Tournament in Bulgaria.

India coach Rafaelle Bergamasco showered praise on Mary Kom’s decisive approach as she executed her strategy to perfection, in what was actually a flawless display according to the coach. “Mary was terrific in executing her strategy, it was a flawless performance,” India coach from Gliwice.

She encountered a taller opponent but she believed in herself and applied a counter-attacking strategy at the right place and at the right time. Mary Kom was so good that she didn’t allow Kassanayeva any snippet of breathing space to go for the shot and hence Mary became successful.
