Clean India movement (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan) is a massive movement started by Government of India to create a clean India, which is one of the best tributes India could pay to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary in 2019 as per the plan of Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi who launched this mission on October 2nd, 2014.
The Swachh Bharat Rankings of this year has been released by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. Indore has retained the accolade of the ‘cleanest city’ once again. Indore is the largest and most populous city of Madhya Pradesh and it was described by the Economic Times as the commercial capital of the state. It is the cleanest city in India despite of being most populous one in central India. Indore retained the title of the cleanest city for the second time.
Bhopal from MP and Chandigarh (Punjab & Haryana) come next on the list. As far as state is concerned, Jharkhand topped the rankings while Maharashtra and Chattisgarh follow next on the list. Chennai entered into top 100 list of cleanest cities in India.
South Delhi Municipal Corporation jumped to 32nd position from its previous rank of 202, where it was adjudged India’s cleanest small city. Tripura was at the bottom of the list in terms of cleanest states while Pondicherry, Nagaland and West Bengal follow next on the list. Vijayawada is the cleanest city in Andhra Pradesh followed by Tirupathi and Visakhapatnam.
The survey rated cities on the based on the performance in six factors such as collection and transportation of municipal solid waste, processing and disposal sanitation related progress, innovation and best practices adapted by cities.
